In this lesson you use the SOLVIEW command to create a sectional view of your model.

You will find our version of the drawing to this point in the 2609b.dwg drawing file located in the 2609.exe self-extracting executable.

1. At the command prompt, type SOLVIEW.

2. Type S to indicate that you want to create a section view.

3. Click in a white area somewhere in the Front viewport. This makes the Front viewport the active viewport.

4. Hold down the SHIFT key and right-click. Select MIDpoint from the list of object snaps.

5. Select the bottom line of the model. See figure 1.

6. Hold down the SHIFT key and right-click. Select Quadrant from the list of object snaps.

7. Select the upper edge of the model so AutoCAD can grab the quadrant of one of the top circles. See figure 2.

8. Within the viewport, select a point to the right of the model to specify the direction of the section. See figure 3.

9. Press ENTER to confirm that .1 is the desired scale for the section.

10. Select a point to the right of the Front viewport to place the Section view. Select additional points, if required to refine the location of the view.

11. Press ENTER to indicate that you don't want to reposition the view.

12. Select two points to put a window around the section geometry. See figure 4.

13. Type Section to specify the name of the view.

14. Press ENTER to exit this command. See figure 5.

You will find our version of the drawing to this point in the 2609c.dwg drawing file located in the 2609.exe self-extracting executable.
