AutoCAD 2000 Tutorial:
Using Partial Open and Partial Load to Work with Large Drawing Files

PART 3: Using PARTIALOAD to display additional geometry in a partially open file

Now that you have partially opened a drawing file and made edits to the geometry displayed, you can use the PARTIALOAD command to load additional files.

  1. From the File menu, choose Partial Load.
  2. From the list of views, choose *Extents*.
  3. Select the Load All button to indicate that you want to load all the geometry on all the layers in the drawing. (Figure 7)
  4. Choose OK to load this geometry into the drawing. (Figure 8)
  5. From the View Zoom menu, choose Extents. (Figure 9)

Tip: When you partially open drawing files, select the Unload all Xrefs on open check box if you want to make sure that externally referenced drawing files aren't loaded. As you can see, partially opening drawing files can substantially reduce the time you spend maintaining large drawing files.
