What is the DWG I-Filter?

With this free version of DWG I-Filter you can extend your Microsoft Internet Information Server, Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server and all other Microsoft Index Server to look inside your drawings and index all valuable information. Install the DWG I-Filter component and point the Index Server to the locations were the drawings are stored.

With the introduction of version 3.0 of the DWG IFilter it is now possible to configure the IFilter. This means that you can map AutoCAD Attributes to Microsoft Index Server properties. You can configure the IFilter that the AutoCAD Attribute "Title" should map to the Index Server property "Title" and "Draftsmen" to "Author". By enabling this you can further narrow the scope of your search with a better and more accurate result. Besides being configurable the DWG IFilter is now also a lot smaller and therefor faster and less memory consuming than version 2.0.

The DWG I-Filter is a plug-in (an extension) for the Microsoft Index Server that offers you the possibilities to index DWG and DXF files on your network.

What is the Microsoft Index Server?

The Microsoft Index Server is a standard FREE service on Microsoft Internet Information Server, Microsoft Site Server and the New Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server. This is very strong technology that offers the users to index Word, Excel, Text, HTML and many other formats on fileservers and file shares. This indexing happens when a file is new or changed on the file system. The results of the index, the words in the documents, are filed in a catalogue. And the catalogue is available to be queried through an intranet. Thus resulting in a very quick and efficient query on all your documents on all shares and servers.

What brings the DWG I-Filter to the Microsoft Index Server?

The DWG I-Filter gives the Index server the possibility to index AutoCAD drawings in the DWG format or the DXF format, version 10 to 2002.

What is indexed with the DWG I-Filter?

The DWG I-Filter filters the drawings for TEXT, MTEXT, ATTRIBUTE information LAYER-, BLOCK- and XREF-names in both Paper and Model Space.

What is the use of the DWG I-Filter?

You can easily extend your corporate intranet with the Microsoft Index Server and offer your internal customers Internet based querying of their documents. With the DWG I-Filter extension even the AutoCAD format. Questions like:

- Give me all documents of project 123456

- Where did we use block ARROW123

- All documents containing "glass"

Are very quickly answered. But the introducing of this technology doesn't cost any productivity at all. No disrupting of the process, just activate the Index Server and place the standard search page on your intranet.

Is it possible to map AutoCAD attributes to Index Server properties?

Yes, with the new version 3.0 of the DWG I-Filter it is possible to map AutoCAD attributes to Index Server properties. You can configure the I-Filter so the content of the AutoCAD Attribute "TITLE" should be placed in the Index Server property "Title" and the content of the AutoCAD Attribute "DRAFSTMAN" should be placed in the Index Server property "Author". With this option it is even possible to narrow your search scope even further and ask for all drawings containing "glass" in the document title and therefore have an ever better search result.
